Funny what we remember, but Ruth (Ellen) and I were in elementary school together and in first grade the teacher tried to get her to drop the name Ellen when she printed her name, but Ruth insisted that she was going to always write her full name. We were also in Brownies together and she wanted to wear a petticoat under her uniform.
